Our Story

Born From the Ground Up

Envy Excavation is the dedicated excavation division of Envy Construction, operating as its own crew, with its own leadership, doing the same precision earthwork that has built foundations under more than 150 custom homes in Southern Maine since 2008.

Envy Construction was founded in Falmouth in 2008 by Nick Voltolina, a builder who had spent 20+ years on jobsites before starting his own company. From day one, the excavation work on Envy's custom homes was done in-house, not because it was cheaper, but because the most expensive mistakes on a $1.5M+ build happen below grade. That part of the project belonged under Nick's own crew's hands.

Eighteen years and 150+ homes later, that in-house crew had built up the equipment, the team, and the playbook to operate as its own business. Envy Excavation launched as a standalone division in 2026, taking that craft directly to homeowners, builders without their own excavation crews, and developers who need a single contractor for site prep through finish grade.

Leadership

Eric Storey, VP of Excavation

The excavation division is led by Eric Storey, VP of Excavation. Eric has spent his career in the field running excavation, foundation, and site-prep work across Southern Maine, not in an office, not from a truck on the way to lunch. He runs every excavation crew personally on the critical phases of a project, and he is the named operator that homeowners write into their reviews when they want to call out the site work specifically.

When you hire Envy Excavation, Eric is the person who walks the property on the first visit, sets the project standard with the crew, and is on the phone if anything on site needs a judgment call. The chain of accountability is short on purpose.

How We Work

Operating Commitments

Precision

Every grade we set is laser-checked or GPS-guided. We don't sight-grade. The base under your driveway, foundation, or leach field determines whether the work above it lasts five years or twenty-five. We treat it accordingly.

Safety

Dig Safe is called before any equipment touches the ground. Trench shoring is set on every excavation deeper than 5 feet. No exceptions. The foreman on site has authority to stop work if conditions change.

Communication

Single point of contact from first walkthrough to final invoice. Daily updates on active projects, written line-item quotes (no verbal estimates), and immediate notice in writing if site conditions change the scope.

Modern Equipment

GPS-guided excavators and graders, vibratory compactors sized to the lift, lasers and rotary levels for finish grading. Our fleet is current and maintained. Equipment failures shouldn't be the homeowner's problem.

The excavation division covers the full scope of residential and light-commercial site work.

Driveway Construction

Gravel driveway installation, base prep, grading, drainage, and culvert tie-ins. Frost-correct base for Maine winters.

Foundation Excavation

Frost-correct depth, proper backfill, coordinated with the framing schedule.

Site Preparation

Clearing, rough grading, and access road work for new builds and additions.

Septic Systems

Design, installation, and replacement, with licensed site evaluators and a working relationship with Maine DEP.

Grading & Drainage

French drains, perimeter drains, lawn drainage, and stormwater tie-ins for lots that don't shed water.

Walls

Boulder retaining walls, natural stone walls, and concrete retaining walls. Granite step installation as an upsell on most jobs.

Demolition

Controlled tear-down and site prep for additions and rebuilds.

Site Utilities

Water mains, sewer mains, and storm drains for builders and developers on subdivision and commercial projects.

Inland and Androscoggin coverage as the project warrants.
